Ciudad Perdida (Spanish for "Lost City") is the archaeological site of an ancient city in Sierra Nevada, Colombia. It is believed to have been founded about 800 AD, some 650 years earlier than Machu Picchu. This location is also known as Buritaca and the Native Americans call it Teyuna.

The Lost City or Ciudad Perdida is the archaeological site of an ancient city in Colombia's Sierra Nevada (Santa Marta). It is believed to have been founded about 800 AD, some 650 years earlier than Machu Picchu. This location is also known as Buritaca and Teyuna.

Ciudad Perdida was "found" in 1972, when a group of local treasure looters found a series of stone steps rising up the mountainside and followed them to an abandoned city. Lost City is one of the most important archaeological site in southamerica built by the extinct Tayrona people, is a sacred place for the Kogi Indians and Arsarios who continually visit it for ceremonies. The program offered is a medium to high level walk, a series of landscapes ranging from 0 to 1100 meters above sea level from where you can see the different ways of how humans settled down there. the guides we work with has a well established relationship with the indigenous people in the region, their main aim is that the income from tourism supports the people of the area, including farmers, porters, guides, restaurants, drivers. most of them have farms in the Sierra Nevada that makes them a truly knowledgeable and outstanding guides.

Ciudad Perdida Tour description for 5 days

FIRST DAY

Departure from Santa Marta to the Mamey jeep (2 hours).Integration, light lunch (ham, vegetables, cheese, bread and coca cola). The walk starts in Mamey and goes all the way until the first camp site (Adan or Alfredo).This is a 4 hour walk (6 km)with some natural pools, rivers, waterfalls. Refreshing fruits are provided during the trip. Accommodation, dinner, information.

SECOND DAY

Breakfast (coffee, chocolate, fruit salad, cereals).Departure at 8 am to the second station, fruits and snacks are provided during the trip. We pass by indigenous communities. Information is provided on the cultures, walking time is approx.4 hours (6 km). Recreation, food, lunch and dinner. Accommodation.

THIRD DAY

Breakfast (coffee, chocolate, sandwich, fruits). Leaving the second camp site to the third one 7:00 a.m. We cross the river Buritaca. We meet with Indian families. Fruits are provided during the trip. 5 hour hike (8kms). Recreation, lunch, accommodation. Just 1 / 2 hour we find Lost City.

FOURTH DAY

Breakfast (fruit, pastries, coffee, chocolate).Walking up to the Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) early in the morning. After walking around the site spending 3 hours there with detailed explanation by the guide , you will go back to the third camp site to have lunch and continue the route to the second camp (where you spent the second night). Walking time is approx.4 hours. Dinner, free time, accommodation.

FIFTH DAY

Breakfast (eggs, bread, chocolate, coffee, fruits) Departure 7:00 to the mamey, 6 hours travel time ½, lunch, return by jeep to Santa Marta, 2 hours (14 kms).

THE TOUR PRICE AT THE MOMENT IS: 800.000 COP, IS SAME FOR 4 OR 5 DAYS.
